Mistletoe

This strip is part of “the handmade tale” series, which means handcrafted stories. In this case the tecnique is #watercolor.

After penning it on my sketchbook, I usually then refine the drawings with procreate on my ipad, with little to no retouching (see for example the handler on the door in panel 5: it made no sense for the purpose of the story – I wanted the outside garland to be seen when opening the door in panel 2, so I later edited it).

Every time I have been drawing a Christmas tree in these past few years, I tend to get away with my fantasy.

The decor of the tree is made completely by magic wands from my favorite Japanese animes that I used to watch as a little kid (the so-called “majokko” girls from Studio Pierrot)

The idea of the story really came after he said: “All these songs are really pushing it with this mistletoe but I have no idea which plant it is”.

This part never actually happened: I think it’s not that easy (or common) to find mistletoe in Europe!

When I edit a “handmade tale”, the fifth strip is usually just the scan of the 4 panels as I draw them, in my sketchbook (you can here clearly see which parts have been lately edited and filled in with procreate).
